July 19th
Oh, the time change can be difficult! Some people are still on Minnesota time and were up by 5 or 6 am. The younger crowd (excluding Sarah Born) was still snoozing 9 or later. After breakfast, we divided again. Sara and Mike headed to Seward to finalize some wedding plans (much to our dismay, it isn’t entirely planning itself) The rest of the crew went back for another hike at Ptarmigan Lake. Again the berries proved to be a formidable distraction, but Sarah B. and Adam did make it to the lake. Later, we met back at the cabins and proceeded to Seward for a dinner cruise to Fox Island on Resurrection Bay.
It was an hour boat ride out to Fox Island, where we had all you can eat prime rib and salmon! Add on two pounds of king crab legs…It was delicious. We have been fortunate with weather; today’s high was in the 60’s with clear skies. After our three hour cruise, the older generation headed back to the cabins while the young and naïve went exploring by car. We did see a sea otter in the distance and this bull moose up close.
We also saw some chum salmon spawning. Finally some real Alaskan observations!
